J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy Will practice this week
Mon, Oct 13, 2025, 12:49 PM
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that McCarthy (ankle) will practice in some capacity ahead of the team's Week 7 matchup against Philadelphia on Sunday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: McCarthy reportedly took notable step forward in his recovery during Minnesota's bye in Week 6, but it remains to be seen whether the second-year pro will be healthy enough that his mobility isn't impeded for Week 7, which is a benchmark O'Connell has mentioned he will need to pass before being cleared for a return to the lineup. Previously, O'Connell had indicated that the Vikings want McCarthy to log a full week of practice before he returns to action. Per Ben Goessling of The Minnesota Star Tribune, O'Connell declined to name a starter for Week 7 on Monday but confirmed that veteran Carson Wentz is still recovering from the injury to his non-throwing shoulder he suffered Week 5.
J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy Status still uncertain for Week 7
Sun, Oct 12, 2025, 9:12 AM
McCarthy (ankle) was able to get in some "good work" on the field during the Vikings' Week 6 bye, but he's still not considered 100 percent healthy and is uncertain to be available for the team's Week 7 game against the Eagles, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Peliserro notes that McCarthy will reclaim starting quarterback duties for the Vikings once he's considered ready for game action, but the second-year signal-caller still has a few hurdles to clear before stepping back in under center for Minnesota. McCarthy is expected to be ready to practice in some fashion during the upcoming week for the first time since suffering a right high-ankle sprain in a Sept. 14 loss to Atlanta, but he'll need to prove that his mobility isn't affected by the injury and that he's "comfortable from an operational perspective" in order to gain clearance to play, according to Pelissero. Meanwhile, Carson Wentz -- who started each of the past three games -- could be limited in practice this week while he tends to an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, leaving the Vikings' quarterback situation unsettled coming out of the bye.

J.J. McCarthy Ready for on-field work
Tue, Oct 7, 2025, 4:17 PM
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that McCarthy (ankle) will get "extensive work" on the field while the Vikings are on bye Week 6, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Assuming McCarthy's right high-ankle sprain responds well to the on-field activity over the next few days, the second-year quarterback is expected to be reintegrated into practices in Week 7 following a three-week absence. Veteran Carson Wentz started in each of the last three games while McCarthy has been sidelined and led Minnesota to a 2-1 record, but Wentz's status is now in question after he was briefly forced out of this past Sunday's win over the Browns with a left shoulder injury. O'Connell didn't provide many details on Wentz's injury Monday, beyond noting that the 32-year-old is "pretty sore" and set for further evaluation. The practice activity of both quarterbacks will be worth monitoring in Week 7, and O'Connell will likely take into account the health of both signal-callers before naming a starter ahead of the Vikings' next game Oct. 19 versus the Eagles.
Cam Akers
Cam Akers Back to practice squad
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 7:35 PM
Akers reverted to the Vikings' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.
Analysis: Akers played just one offensive snap during the Vikings' 21-17 win over the Browns on Sunday, but he made the most of that opportunity by throwing a 32-yard pass to Josh Oliver on a trick play, where the sixth-year running back was used as a wildcat quarterback. Akers has already been elevated to Minnesota's active roster three times, which is the maximum allowed for a season. He would have to be signed to the active roster in order to play for the Vikings for the rest of the season, which could happen with Aaron Jones (hamstring) on injured reserve.
Josh Oliver
Josh Oliver Catches TD on trick play
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 4:12 PM
Oliver had two receptions for 35 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown, on three targets in Sunday's win over Cleveland in London.
Analysis: Oliver's touchdown came on a trick play from Cam Akers in the wildcat formation. Oliver has just four receptions and six targets in five games this season. He's almost exclusively a blocking tight end but can get the occasional touchdown (two this season).
Adam Thielen
Adam Thielen No targets in win
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 4:06 PM
Thielen did not have a target or carry in Sunday's win over Cleveland in London. He played on 14 of the offense's 65 snaps.
Analysis: Thielen has become a distant No. 4 receiver the past two games with the return of Jordan Addison from a suspension. He's unlikely to have a larger role in the offense unless one of the top three receivers is injured.
Jalen Nailor
Jalen Nailor Three receptions in win
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 4:03 PM
Nailor had three receptions for 27 yards on four targets and one carry for 15 yards in Sunday's win over Cleveland in London.
Analysis: Nailor started opposite Justin Jefferson with Jordan Addison benched for the first quarter for disciplinary reasons. It didn't result in a significant increase in playing time, as Nailor played on 42 of the offense's 65 snaps, about the same percentage as last week. Nailor will continue to operate as the No. 3 receiver when the Vikings face the Eagles in Week 7 after a bye.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz Shoulder being evaluated
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 2:59 PM
Coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that Wentz's left shoulder injury will be further evaluated this week, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Wentz briefly left Sunday's game against the Browns in London and went to the locker room early just before halftime, but he was under center after the break and was able to finish the contest. The injury was to his left, non-throwing shoulder. With J.J. McCarthy (ankle) likely to return to practice at some point following the Vikings' upcoming Week 6 bye, McCarthy could be back under center Week 7 against the Eagles.
Zavier Scott
Zavier Scott Five carries but fumbles in win
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 1:57 PM
Scott had five carries for 18 yards but lost a fumble in Sunday's win over Cleveland in London.
Analysis: Scott played on 14 of the offense's 65 snaps and was the clear No. 2 running back ahead of Cam Akers (one snap on offense). Scott's fumble could put his No. 2 running back role at risk, but it doesn't appear Akers is a significant threat. However, Scott may have just one more game as the backup if Aaron Jones (hamstring) is able to return from injured reserve Week 8.
Cam Akers
Cam Akers Throws TD pass
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 1:50 PM
Akers threw a 32-yard touchdown pass on his only snap on offense while being used as a wildcat quarterback in Sunday's win over Cleveland in London.
Analysis: Akers threw a perfect pass to Josh Oliver on a trick play. Akers was a successful high school quarterback and threw several halfback passes in college. Aside from the trick play, Akers had little role on offense, as he served as the team's No. 3 running back for the third straight week behind Jordan Mason and Zavier Scott, with Aaron Jones (hamstring) still on injured reserve.
T.J. Hockenson
T.J. Hockenson Six grabs in London victory
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 12:47 PM
Hockenson brought in all six targets for 38 yards in the Vikings' 21-17 win over the Browns in London on Sunday.
Analysis: The veteran tight end continued to play a short-area role and finished as the runner-up in receptions for the Vikings while also tying for second in targets. Hockenson provided some key contributions on the Vikings' game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter, making two catches for 20 yards during the possession. He has between four and six receptions in his last three games, but he's yet to top 49 receiving yards in any contest this season heading into the Week 6 bye.
Jordan Addison
Jordan Addison Atones for early-game benching
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 12:37 PM
Addison secured five of six targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' 21-17 win over the Browns in London on Sunday.
Analysis: Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reported Addison was subject to a first-quarter benching for undisclosed reasons, but the third-year wideout ultimately would make up for lost time in clutch fashion. Addison was efficient with his opportunities, and the bulk of those came at the tail end of the Vikings' game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. Addison was on the receiving end of each of Carson Wentz's final three completions and totaled 21 yards on those catches, the last which was a go-ahead 12-yard touchdown grab. For his part, Addison conceded afterward that he wasn't sure if he'd even be able to play in the game, per Seifert, but he made good on his vow to be ready if he did step on the field. Following the completion of his season-opening three-game suspension, Addison has immediately played a key part in Minnesota's air attack with a 9-155-1 line on 14 targets over his first two contests. He'll now prepare to play his first 2025 game stateside following the Week 6 bye when the Vikings host the Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 19 in a contest that could also provide Addison his first regular-season opportunity to work with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) as his quarterback.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz Toughs out shoulder issue in win
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 12:28 PM
Wentz completed 25 of 34 passes for 236 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions while adding three rushes for 13 yards in the Vikings' 21-17 win over the Browns in London on Sunday.
Analysis: Wentz exited the game with a left shoulder injury late in the second quarter, although he technically only missed the end-of-half kneel-down play before returning to start the second half. The veteran quarterback's presence would end up proving critical in the Vikings' comeback win, as Wentz battled through the injury and a ferocious Browns pass rush to ultimately helm a game-winning 10-play, 80-yard march that he capped off with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Addison. Wentz went a blistering 9-for-9 on that final drive, capping off what might have been the final installment of his current starting tenure in fine fashion. Minnesota now heads into a Week 6 bye, and J.J. McCarthy (ankle) may be ready to return to action when the Eagles pay a visit for a Week 7 matchup on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Jordan Mason
Jordan Mason Garners rush TD in win
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 12:19 PM
Mason rushed 13 times for 52 yards and a touchdown and brought in three of four targets for four yards in the Vikings' 21-17 win over the Browns in London on Sunday.
Analysis: Mason's rushing opportunities were limited, but he locked in a solid fantasy day with a three-yard touchdown run to cap off the first drive of the second half. The offseason addition generally found tough sledding on the ground outside of the short score and his game-long 14-yard run, but he continued to keep Minnesota's ground attack viable in the ongoing absence of Aaron Jones (IR, hamstring). Mason should be in line to remain the lead back when the Vikings come out of the Week 6 bye with a Week 7 home matchup against the Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Justin Jefferson
Justin Jefferson Continues surge in London win
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 12:15 PM
Jefferson brought in seven of 11 targets for 123 yards in the Vikings' 21-17 win over the Browns in London on Sunday.
Analysis: Jefferson paced the Vikings in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the day, turning in his second consecutive 100-yard effort in the process. His final reception of the contest was especially critical, as he came down with a 21-yard grab to take the ball to the Browns' 27 yard-line with under two minutes remaining on Minnesota's game-winning drive. Jefferson has displayed excellent chemistry with fill-in signal-caller Carson Wentz over the last pair of contests, but J.J. McCarthy (ankle) may be set to return to action when the Vikings come out of a Week 6 bye to host the Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz Returns to Sunday's game
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 10:21 AM
Wentz returned to Sunday's game against the Browns for the third quarter after having exited with a left shoulder injury in the second quarter.
Analysis: Wentz will thus look to help the Vikings overcome a 10-7 halftime deficit, with Max Brosmer on hand should the veteran signal-caller suffer any setbacks with his (non-throwing) shoulder.
Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz Exits Sunday's game
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 9:53 AM
Wentz was forced out of Sunday's game against the Browns with a left shoulder injury in the second quarter.
Analysis: Prior to his exit from the contest, Wentz completed seven of his 12 passing attempts for 73 yards and carried twice for 12 yards. Next up for the Vikings' QB reps is Max Brosmer.
C.J. Ham
C.J. Ham Debuting in Week 5
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 7:17 AM
Ham (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Browns in London.
Analysis: Ham was sidelined for the Vikings' first four games of the season, but he returned to practice this week as a full participant and was activated from injured reserve Saturday, so the writing was on the wall for him to make his 2025 debut Sunday. The 32-year-old is the lone fullback on the Vikings' roster, but in past seasons, he's typically been a part-time contributor on offense and has served mainly as a blocker. Ham is also a key part of Minnesota's special-teams units.
C.J. Ham
C.J. Ham Activated off IR
Sat, Oct 4, 2025, 5:26 PM
The Vikings activated Ham (knee) off injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Ham missed the team's first four games of the campaign but should have a chance to make his season debut during Sunday's matchup versus the Browns. If the 32-year-old ends up playing, he will look to help open up holes in the run game for Jordan Mason and Zavier Scott against a stout Cleveland defense.
Cam Akers
Cam Akers Elevated to active roster
Sat, Oct 4, 2025, 5:05 PM
The Vikings elevated Akers from their practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's game versus the Browns.
Analysis: Akers will serve as the team's No. 3 running back for the third straight week behind Jordan Mason and Zavier Scott, with Aaron Jones (hamstring) still on injured reserve. This is the final time Minnesota will be able to elevate Akers, and going forward the team will have to sign him to the active roster in order for him to appear in another game.
